We have designed a standard for each badge which reflects what we think consumers can reasonably expect from cafes.  We call these standards our ‘reasonableness tests’.  These tests are detailed on the pages of this site that describes each badge.  Participating cafes display the badges that they have been awarded in-store.

We are not a certification agency, but wherever possible we have utilized existing eco-certification labels in our tests for each badge.  These labels are based on what we consider to be reputable, relevant and publicly available standards. 

This is a living project.  The badges and tests will evolve to reflect changing consumer preferences and expectations and the experiences of participating cafes.  We invite you to share your ideas and feedback with us.  We are particularly keen to hear about stories of cafés’ journeys towards improving their business practices, the lessons they have learnt and the value they have gained.
