How do we award the badge?

A cafe's cleaning products must be eco-friendly (i.e. do not contain any chemical bleaches and formaldehydes, and are non-toxic).

Why do we think it's important?

Unlike many conventional cleaning products, eco-friendly cleaning products  typically do not contain any chemical bleaches, toxins or formaldehydes. Many eco-friendly products are plant based and rapidly biodegradable, so they are better for the environment. There is evidence to suggest they are healthier for customers and employees too. 

Eco-friendly cleaning products compare very favourably in cost per use with most leading brands.  Many products are (safely) super-concentrated so you only use a little and are available in economical bulk sizes.

All a cafes cleaning products can be eco-friendly, including: Commercial dishwashing liquid; Multi-purpose cleaner and degreaser; Coffee machine cleaner; Floor cleaner; Toilet cleaner; Hand wash; Window cleaner; and Laundry Liquid.
